dfw’s 2011 “man vs. plane” competition
What is DFW’s 2011 “Man vs. Plane” Competition?
DFW’s 2011 “Man vs. Plane” Competition is an exciting team competition to see which group can pull a 140,000+ pound American Airlines McDonnell Douglas MD-80 the fastest.
Teams are made up of (at least) 15 members, who line-up adjacent to a rope attached to the aircraft. The starter signals when the “pull” begins, starting his stopwatch, after which each team begins pulling the aircraft. After the nose of the aircraft crosses the finish line, the stopwatch is stopped and each team’s distance is measured.
After each team has completed their pull, the fastest pull to 25 feet and 80 feet distances are determined and the winners announced.

Plane Pull History
The first-ever Plane Pull® (world-wide) was held to benefit Special Olympics® Virginia at Dulles International Airport in 1992, with eleven teams participating who were looking for a new and unique way to raise money and awareness for Special Olympics® athletes. There are Plane Pulls held throughout the year in Colorado, Maryland, Hawaii, Tennessee, and Texas that benefit Special Olympics® programs in those states.
